Palm leaves bag

During the “Material Testing” course, we were challenged to choose a natural material and unlock its design potential. I selected palm leaves—a locally sourced, sustainable material characterized by its unique texture and warm hues.
Design Process
The fabrication process began with carefully separating each frond into individual leaves, which I then dried and pressed. By aligning the leaves edge-to-edge and stitching them together with an industrial sewing machine, I created four seamless panels of palm-leaf “fabric.” These panels formed the exterior shell of the tote, showcasing the material’s inherent pattern and structure.

The interior is lined with soft green fabric, complemented by solid wooden handles that enhance both structure and the bag’s natural, organic feel.
